For that reason, the network has established five regions – most recently launching an African Chapter in 2020 – where Chief Executive Officers, and senior colleagues, convene to discuss topics that matter most to them. These groups are supported by a network of regional representatives, all of whom are senior bankers with extensive experience of the regions they serve. The Chapters often welcome colleagues from outside the region to discuss relevant issues. We expect to build on this cross-fertilization of ideas and people during 2021.   Asia-Pacific A decade ago, the GABV movement was conceived, founded and developed with the participation of BRAC Bank in Bangladesh, a leading sustainable bank from the Asia-Pacific region. The region’s representation of two members when it was founded in 2009, increased to 34 by 2020. Asia-Pacific is a region with great diversity of representation from Australia to Mongolia. The region renders immense diversity and complexities as it comprises of the most developed and largest economies, and the least developed nations, as well as countries facing dire difficulties due to internal conflicts and natural disasters. This diversity gives its members a unique opportunity to draw from the myriad of experiences and context to learn from each other.   This year's Asia-Pacific Chapter meeting was held virtually from 16 - 17 November 2021. Sanasa Development Bank hosted the forum.    The meeting agenda featured various pressing issues in the region, including digitalisation challenges, financing of renewal energy, assets quality challenges faced by the banking system in the region due to the COVID crisis, and access to finance for the missing middle (SME).    The meeting updated members on GABV's work and aims to obtain their feedback as to how better showcase the Asia Pacific region during the GABV Annual Meeting 2022.   The SME Finance Forum was represented by Jessica Alfaro, Financial Specialist who provided an overview of SMEFF work in the region. It is present in 40 countries, and collectively we serve 60 million customers, hold up to $200 billion USD of combined assets under management, and are supported by 80,000 co-workers. On the eve of the UN Conference on Climate Change in Glasgow (COP26), the Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV) is calling on the financial sector as a whole to act faster, go further, and be more coherent against climate change. Next 3 November, values-based banks celebrate the 8th edition of international #BankingOnValues Day to advocate for an ambitious approach to climate change. “You can't fix the climate without fixing finance,” says Martin Rohner, Executive Director of the GABV. “Our members commit to measure emissions and reduce them in line with the Paris Agreement, or faster. This means implementing strict exclusion criteria and divesting from non-essential activities that are harmful. But this still is not enough. The financial sector as a whole must act faster, go further, and be more coherent”, says Rohner.    Learn more about this event here>   WebEx SME FINANCE FORUM ronyg@panapps.co America/New_York public
